Everyone is using Twitter. Everyone
. At first it seems absurd, but once you start following things your interested in it can and will completely change the way you use the internet. It has nearly replaced RSS readers for me, reduced the amount of time I spend going to actual web sites, and drastically reduced the number of emails and text messages I send. What's more, is I've gotten actual paying work out of it... and it's free!
was an early adopter of Twitter on the Action Sports front (these days most brands, events, and sites are using it) and many of them have been doing special twitter contests in recent months. It truly is one of the best forms of marketing and PR going right now. Today Tony started doing a scavenger hunt for his more than 200,000 followers.
Tony Hawk launched a all-out scavenger war this morning by announcing to his 200,000+ followers via Twitter than he was going to be stashing complete skateboards in various locations. He sent the following message: " “Whatup Twit-talkers! I have a couple of complete skateboards to give away today. Stay tuned . . . First one is for 760 locals: Palomar Oaks Way just south of Palomar Airport Rd. Look behind the fire hydrant just across the bridge. Go now."
Within 50 minutes KT Alach
of Carlsbad, California had found the deck and posted a TwitPic of herself holding it..
This is new marketing at its finest. Companies can email all the Press Releases they want, but if they want to grab the attention of the people, follow Tony's lead and get creative. Kudo's Tony, Awesome.
If you're not already following Tony
you should do so. More set-ups for the finding are on the way. And while you're at it follow BFD
on Twitter as well!
