The Oregon Trifecta, part of World Cup Skateboarding's Bowl series, has become one of the most anticipated concrete contests of the year. Three parks, three days, three contests. Well, that's the idea anyway.
Due to some paperwork mishaps in regards to the Lincoln City stop (which was to be the first stop of 2009) the Trifecta was relegated to a Bifecta. But that didn't stop the fun. Tigard and Pier Park are two of Oregon's best skateparks, and for that matter two of the best concrete parks in the world.
The Trifecta is a grass-roots event. With a small prize purse and a television camera free environment, you get people showing up for the love of skating concrete. And you still get a lot of big names.
This year legends like Lance Mountain, Sergie Ventura, and Buck Smith joined more new-school rippers like Kevin Kowalski (winner of Day )ne in Tigard), Steve Reeves, Tim Johnson, and Benji Galloway (winner of Day Two at Pier) for some shredding at two very different skateparks. It should be noted that Steven Pineiro, who got second at Pier Park, is 12 years old, and was doing McTwists. He beat out many guys old enough to be his father in a serious concrete bowl. Not bad!
