Friday November 20th, Franklin High School

Well, it all boils down to today. One last day on the tour, only 1 more show, and that show just happened to be at Franklin High School. We saw Franklin High at the beginning of the Xbox tour last fall, so it was fitting to end the 2009 tour at their campus. Again, it was another sunny, fantastic day, and we had a perfectly level, paved area to set the ramp up on. I know everyone was tired after 10 weeks of being on the road, but we all pulled it together to make one last show, and make it a gre… Continue

Thursday November 19th, Los Angeles High School

Today started off a little rough. The plan today was to have 2 assembly shows, each an hour in length, on the football field, and have the students hang back in the bleachers. In order for this to take place, a lot of prep work had to be done on the field. Jeff Hermanek from the ASA office, had to come out yesterday , and mark off all the sprinkler heads on the field, so our truck would not drive over them today. After all that extra work, the field was watered overnight, and was basically impos… Continue

Wednesday November 18th, Huntington Park High School

Today was an early one. It wasn't so much that our shows were early, but more that we had a special guest on site today. The folks from the Fox show "Good Day LA" decided to stop by, and include us as part of their live broadcast this morning. That being said, we were treated to something we had managed to avoid all week thus far, LA morning traffic, YUCK!!! It's been awhile since I lived here, but one thing I most certainly do not miss, is the traffic. With us being in Burbank, and the school b… Continue

Tuesday November 17th, North Hollywood High School

This morning we made the short drive from our hotel in Burbank, to the campus of North Hollywood High. It's a smaller campus just off of Colfax, and we had our program on the football field today. I have to give credit to our truck driver, Armand Sylvie. The approach to get our truck into this campus, was quite the challenging one today. Our truck is 55 feet long, it's pretty much like driving a semi truck. The way into the campus, you have to make a sharp turn, into a very crowded parking lot,… Continue

Monday November 16th, Reseda High School

First day in the greater Los Angeles area, and it was a warm one. After a very cold few weeks in Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, it hardly felt like fall today at all. It was sunny and in the 70's, pretty much a perfect day for some riding. We start this week off at the Reseda High School campus. As we pulled up to the school today, we noticed a ton of trailers and activity in one of their parking lots, close to the football field. On one of their practice fields, they had a large group of peopl… Continue

Friday November 13th, Mount Pleasant High School

We're down to the last day of the 9th week of the Get Up Tour. It's hard to believe this thing is almost over, but after today, it's only one more week to go. Our final performance of week # 9 brought us to the Mount Pleasant campus. This was fairly different from the last couple of days, because there was not a cloud in the sky, and it was hot. The temperature had been pretty mellow all week, it would dip here and there, but nothing too extreme. Today, it was really warm though. You add warm te… Continue

Thursday November 12th, Piedmont Hills High

Here we are, 2nd to last day to week # 9 of the tour. Original weather reports we had gotten earlier in the week, had called for rain last night, and today. When I woke up today, it was bright and sunny, not even a morning marine layer, which is common in this area. The weather reports had claimed rain starting Wednesday night, and lasting through Friday. Whatever the weathermen said was going to happen, obviously didn't, because it was clear as could be. Our travels today, took us about 15 min… Continue

Wednesday November 11th, The Harker School

Today is Veterans Day. Now that being said, pretty much every public school in the area is closed today. It looked as if we were going to have to take the day off. After some searching around, we stumbled across a private school in south San Jose called, The Harker School. They were in session today, and welcomed our program with open arms, so we were back in business for today. Upon first looking at the school campus on Google Maps, it looked as if there wasn't going to be anywhere to actually… Continue

Tuesday November 10th, Oak Grove High School

We had great weather yesterday, and today turned out to be another one of those weird days. There is no rain in the forecast, but when you're in the Bay area, you never know what the weather is going to do. It could be sunny one minute, and then a marine layer rolls in and the next thing you know, it's raining. It was pretty warm outside, but it just had this layer of light gray hanging over everything. It never really seemed like rain, it just kinda blanketed the area. The sun would make an ap… Continue

Monday November 9th, Independence High School

Week 9 officially starts today and it brings us to south bay area and back to San Jose California. This our 2nd year in a row in this area on the fall tour, with the Xbox folks. We just did it in reverse order this time. San Jose was the official kickoff week of the 2008 fall tour, so it's only fitting that we come back through here, on the 2nd to last week this time around. First show of the week brought us to Independence High School. This is one we have not seen in quite some time. As a matt… Continue

Friday November 6th, Laguna Creek High School

Last day in Sacramento, and it was the first day we didn't have perfect sunny weather. The sun would make an appearance from time to time, but mostly it was an overcast and somewhat cooler day, compared to rest of the week. As we made the drive down south the Elk Grove, it looked as if it was going to rain a few times, but the rain never came, it just stayed overcast. The performance today made the last stop of the Sacramento week at Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove. This school was anothe… Continue

Thursday November 5th, Rio Linda High School

Another perfect day in California, and another high school in Sacramento. The weather here has been phenomenal. It's hard to believe that it is late fall, because it feels like late spring. Today was another clear blue day, with temps in the low 80s. It was a perfect day to do a show. Our schedule for today was a campus in northern Sacramento, called Rio Linda. The day actually started a lot earlier than usual for one of our riders. Gabe, our flatland rider, had an early morning appearance toda… Continue

Wednesday September 4th, Cordova High School

Lately my blogs have consisted mainly of talk about the weather, and the adverse things that our crew has had to overcome the last few weeks. With the current conditions in Sacramento this week, that hasn't been the case. I also now feel the pressure, because I have been told I have a daily reader of my blogs, a fan, if you will. Our tour manager is Sara Kindig. Sara informed me over the weekend, that her mother, Cindy, reads all of my blogs, and is a fan of my work. Before hearing this, I figur… Continue

Tuesday November 3rd, Oakmont High School

Another great day of northern California weather, and another school we haven't seen in a quite a few years. Today's presentation took place at Oakmont High. Now we have been coming here, as far back as I can remember. The last time we were here, we actually had to cancel, because of the rain. Oakmont was actually the last day of our 2007 spring tour, and the rain cut that tour short, but that wasn't the case today. It was a perfect sunny day, and a perfect setup area for our ramp crew. Those gu… Continue

Monday November 2nd, Rocklin High School

The crew had a super long drive from Albuquerque to Sacramento, and the rest of us took the weekend off, and enjoyed Halloween and some football on Sunday, but soon it was back to work. This is week 8 of the tour, and it brings us back to the west coast and Sacramento California. We have been to Sacramento many times in the history of the ASA High School Tour, so we are back in familiar territory. The athletes on this week of the tour are Gabe Weed (flatland), Jay Eggleston (BMX), Koji Kraft (B… Continue

Friday October 30th, Volcano Vista High School

Last day of the week in Albuquerque and yes, the weather is all gone. No more snow, no more rain, no more clouds. The only thing left was the cold, and man was it ever cold!!!!!. I felt bad for the crew today because the weather was not supposed to be above 35 until well into the afternoon. When you're leaving the hotel when it's still dark outside, and you factor in the wind, that definitely is no fun. They have braved it all week pretty much, and they braved it again today. Final show of the… Continue

Thursday October 29th, Valley High School

The storm was supposed to move through the area last night, and when we got up this morning, it appeared to have been pretty much gone. It was nice and sunny out, but it sure was cold. That was a bit of a good sign for our show today at Valley High School. Valley High is just to the north of downtown Albuquerque, and fortunately for us, they had a huge student parking lot, for us to set up in. It was a nice, wide open, flat paved parking lot, that was absolutely perfect for our ramp truck, as w… Continue

Wednesday October 28th, Highland High School

Yesterday the weather folks were saying that this winter storm was going to possibly lose a lot of it's steam, and probably not cause too many problems in Albuquerque. They said the temps would drop, but otherwise, it would probably be pretty mellow. I knew we had some weather problems when I got a text from the ramp crew early this morning, saying their call time had been changed to 2 hours later. At this point, I hit the snooze button on the alarm, and then got up 30 minutes later, looked out… Continue

Tuesday October 27th, Rio Rancho High School

It was beautiful yesterday, and this morning, the clouds began to roll in. The 2nd of two systems moving through the area has begun to make it's way through this part of the country. That main storm isn't due to hit until later tonight, so this mornings weather was just the front edge of it all. Apparently the storm lost a little steam along the way. The temperature was a little colder than yesterday, but not by much. It really appeared to be the biggest change in the mountains, because thats wh… Continue
