ASA High School Tour's Blog (28)

Friday May 1st, Glenbard North High School

Here we are ladies and gentlemen, last day of the tour. Now if you have been actively following my blog posts for the last 6 weeks, you will know that weather has been the theme of the tour this spring. We have seen it all. We have seen perfect sunny warm days (although not too many of them), plenty of rain, plenty of wind, and lots of temperatures in the mid 40's to mid 50's. Despite all the weather, we have come through every single time, to make sure the students of each high school, get a… Continue

Thursday April 30th, Palatine High School

Here we go again, more blog updates, talking about rain. For some reason or another, the weather has not agreed with us much this week, as well as the last couple of weeks of the tour. The Chicago week is the 4th straight week that we started off doing box jump shows on Mondays and Tuesdays. Yesterday the weather gave us a break, and we were able to do a vert show. Today, the skies opened up and we were back to doing gym shows.

The location today was Palatine High School. The… Continue

Wednesday April 29th, Dundee-Crown High School

The beginning of the week, I thought we were going to get rained out every day. This morning looked as if the trend was going to continue. The skies were gray and it was pretty chilly outside. I think we had highs today in the mid to low 50's. I thought the rains were coming, but they never did. By midday, it had not rained yet, so we headed off to the shcool.

When we arrived at Dundee-Crown High School, it was pretty busy down by the ramp. We were in a parking lot behind the school.… Continue

Tuesday April 28th, Harry D. Jacobs High School

Well we finally got a nice day, without any rain. I thought for sure we were going to have a vert show today. I figured, "what could possibly prevent us from being outside today?". I would soon find out. With all the heavy downpours that hit the Chicagoland area over the weekend, the field at Harry D. Jacobs High School was completely saturated. They have a really nice football field, and with the truck weighing close to 35,000 pounds, a wet field would soon be a destroyed field. That being… Continue

Monday April 27th, James B. Conant High School

Would you expect anything less than for me to start of this blog with stories about the weather? I hate to say it again people, but my spring weather drama continues. It seems to be a recurring theme at the beginning of each week, that we start off indoors, and finish big at the end with vert shows. The weekend saw some heavy rains in the Chicagoland area, and it saturated a lot of the fields we were due to set up on this week. Our first show this week was at Conant High school, and the rain… Continue

Friday April 24th, Avon High School

The weathermen were partially right today. For the first time all week, it was actually a decent temperature outside, and also, it was not raining. We were all starting to get cabin fever out here, from being indoors for so long. We had some sun today, but the clouds started to roll in again mid afternoon. It was dry and warm which was good, but we got paid a visit today by someone we had not seen in awhile, our old friend the wind. Today was some of the worst wind conditions we have faced all… Continue

Thursday April 23rd, Northwest High School

Finally today, the sun was out. The weathermen have been pretty far off the mark this whole week. They have been claiming clear skies and a warming trend since Tuesday. Today we got the clearing skies, but it wasn't that much warmer. It was definitely still jacket weather, but the main point was that it was dry outside, which meant we got to do a vert show for the first time this week.

When we arrived at Northwest High today, the ramp was setup in a parking lot on the backside of the… Continue

Wednesday April 22nd Arsenal Technical High School

Well the rain was supposed to be gone, and it was supposed to be a lot warmer today, but that definitely wasn't the case. The remaining portion of this weather front decided to hang around a little longer than planned, so it was still cloudy and cold, it would rain from time to time. This was not good for our show today at Arsenal Technical High School. They were planning on having the ramp on the football field, but due to all the rain from Sunday up through today, the field was soaked.… Continue

Tuesday April 21st Tri-West High School

Today was my first day back on the tour since leaving the crew in Cincinnati on Friday. I left the tour to head to San Diego for the FMX Team Energy Cup contest, and had enjoyed summer like temperatures over the course of the weekend. On Monday, it was record heat in the San Diego area, and that trend continued during my layover in Las Vegas. By the time I got to Indianapolis last night, I was wishing I had brought a hoodie instead of packing them all into my luggage, because it was cold!!!!!!… Continue

Friday April 17th Princeton High School

One more day left in Cincinnati, and you couldn't have asked for better weather. As a matter of fact, the weather has been so good today and yesterday that it made it seem like the rain earlier in the week was a month ago. We had one last show this week and it was literally less than a mile from our hotel, at Princeton High School.

Since the rain had saturated most of their fields earlier in the week, it was decided to have our show in half of the staff parking lot, across the street… Continue

Thursday April 16th Lakota East High School

Last night I was starting to think the local weathermen here were going insane. They had been saying for days, that the rain and cold temperatures were going to be gone by mid morning Wednesday. Yesterday the rain was still kicking. It almost canceled our show, but we pulled it off. Even well into the evening, it was still cold and even raining more. We were starting to wonder if we were going to get any sunlight at all this week. When we got up this morning, it was a totally different mindset.… Continue

Wednesday April 15th Robert Taft Information Technology High School

Taft High was our location today, and this one was supposed to be a no brainer. The weather has not been good the last couple of days at all. It's been cold, it's been rainy, but according to the weather reports last night, that was all supposed to change today. The forecast was for warmer temps and some clouds in the morning, but was supposed to be clear skies the rest of the day. I guess Mother Nature didn't get that memo, because she certainly did not want to cooperate today.

When… Continue

Tuesday April 14th Lockland High School

Yesterdays rain never seemed to let up. It just got progressively worse throughout the day. Once we got back to the hotel, it looked as if the weather was going to pass on through. As I was writing yesterdays blog post, I kept hearing these noises. I assumed it was the highway, since our hotel backs right up to the freeway. It took a few minutes, but I realized it was actually thunder, and getting closer and closer. I stopped working for a bit and checked out the local news. There was some… Continue

Monday April 13th P.A.C.E. High School

Since there was no school on Friday in Memphis, we all had a 3 day weekend. It seemed like it was a lot longer than 3 days for some reason. We had a BBQ at the hotel on Friday night, and then piled into the vehicles on Saturday for the 7 + hour drive to Cincinnati. The weather was nice the whole way there, and we had great weather on Easter Sunday. It was a little colder in Cincy than it was in Memphis. We spent most of Easter catching up on paperwork, and watching Tyler repaint the deck walls.… Continue

Thursday April 9th White Station High School

I watched the local news last night, and the weather report did not look too favorable. Another front is about to blast through the area and they were calling for rain, and some possible severe weather in a large portion of Memphis. It did not sound very good, but the one glimmer of hope was that it sounded like the bad weather wouldn't start until later in the afternoon. That was good news, considering our shows at White Station High School were earlier in the day today.

As we… Continue

Wednesday April 8th Cordova High School

I woke up this morning and saw something different out the window, SUNLIGHT!!!!!!!!! After days of cold temperatures, howling winds, and dark skies, the sun finally decided to make an appearance today. The weather outside was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Most importantly, there wasn't any harsh winds whipping around the area. This got everybody on our crew fired up, because it meant that we would finally get to do a vert show. Marc and Anthony were starting to get bored watching box jump… Continue

Tuesday April 7th Ridgeway High School

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the weather report for this afternoon did not look so favorable. Last night they were throwing out freeze warnings for the entire area, and talking about windchill factors of 25 degrees and possible snow. We couldn't believe it, and we pretty much sat in amazement as we watched the weather get worse throughout the night. Once I woke up this morning, there was not a cloud in the sky. That meant the weather had moved through, but without any clouds, it also… Continue

Monday April 6th Kingsbury High School

Weather has pretty much been the recurring theme on the tour thus far. We got plagued by rain all week in Houston. Dallas tried to do us in with the wind. The wind almost won a few times, but in the end, we always prevailed. After all the wind issues during the week, the weekend was actually pretty nice in Dallas. The truck and ramp crew took off for Memphis on Friday night, while the rest of us stayed behind in Dallas for the remainder of the weekend. Sunday afternoon we headed towards… Continue

Friday April 3rd Brewer High School

After yesterday's wind debacle, I thought for sure we were going to have to do a box jump show today. The wind was so bad on Thursday, that it had actually snapped the support poles for one of the deck railings. We figured this was going to sideline us for several days. Our show today was at Brewer High in northwest Ft. Worth. Our tour manager Chris had called the folks at Brewer High on Thursday, and informed them that we were going to have to do the box jump show. Much to my amazement when we… Continue

Thursday April 2nd Seagoville High

Today started off much like yesterday. Clear skies, nice and sunny outside, and what appeared to be mellow temperatures and light wind. I was right about the temperature, but dead wrong about the wind. Apparently that front moved through like a lion last night. It brought some severe storms through our area around 4AM, and most of us slept right through it. The rain was gone by morning, but the wind was blasting through the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex like crazy. The drive down to Seagoville from… Continue

What to Look for in a Board
