The storm was supposed to move through the area last night, and when we got up this morning, it appeared to have been pretty much gone. It was nice and sunny out, but it sure was cold. That was a bit of a good sign for our show today at Valley High School.
Valley High is just to the north of downtown Albuquerque, and fortunately for us, they had a huge student parking lot, for us to set up in. It was a nice, wide open, flat paved parking lot, that was absolutely perfect for our ramp… Continue
Yesterday the weather folks were saying that this winter storm was going to possibly lose a lot of it's steam, and probably not cause too many problems in Albuquerque. They said the temps would drop, but otherwise, it would probably be pretty mellow. I knew we had some weather problems when I got a text from the ramp crew early this morning, saying their call time had been changed to 2 hours later. At this point, I hit the snooze button on the alarm, and then got up 30 minutes later, looked out… Continue
Ten Pack, the Canadian BMX distributor owned by BMX legend Jay Miron, held a Pro/AM competition, in association with Pepsi, at Le TAZ skatepark in Montreal last weekend. Ten Pack has put on some of the best BMX events over the years (Metro Jam ring any bells? How about Red Bull Elevation?) so some big names were bound to show up in Montreal. And that they did... Alistair Whitton, Chris Doyle, Tony Hamlin and more turned up. Check out the video above and the results… Continue

It was beautiful yesterday, and this morning, the clouds began to roll in. The 2nd of two systems moving through the area has begun to make it's way through this part of the country. That main storm isn't due to hit until later tonight, so this mornings weather was just the front edge of it all. Apparently the storm lost a little steam along the way. The temperature was a little colder than yesterday, but not by much. It really appeared to be the biggest change in the mountains, because thats… Continue

Oklahoma City was a short week, and it sure did go by fast. We all piled into the Suburban on Saturday afternoon, and made the 8 hour trek. We stopped at a few sites along the way, mainly the infamous Cadillac Ranch, just outside of Amarillo. It's a cool little piece of Americana, some farmer put 10 Cadillac cars into the dirt, front end first, and they are quite the popular tourist attraction. Our tour manager, Sara, had never seen this before, or even heard of it, so we felt it fitting to… Continue
Winter is almost upon us in many parts of the country, and it's about time to start thinking about how you'll get your winter riding/skating fix. The lucky Southerners need not worry, but for the rest of us, the indoors will soon be calling. We'll look at different indoor skateparks throughout the winter, but for now, here are five worth your time in the car. Again, it's only five, and by no means a complete list. Stay tuned for more throughout the winter, but try these out in the… Continue
Just when you thought things might be winding down for the year, Dave Mirra is putting together an invitation-only contest at his private "Animal House" warehouse in North Carolina, December 11-12. Dave is hand picking the riders himself, so you know it's going to be a stacked field. First place is a brand new WRX from Subaru, Monster Energy are giving away aBreitling watch, DC are giving away a dirtbike, and there is an $8000 cash jam on Friday… Continue

It's been a very short week, it's almost hard to believe that this one is over at this point. All week long, I have been writing constantly about the wind and the rain, and the cold. Well, we had more of that today, except it was a little different this time. There was wind, it was certainly cold, but no rain, and the sun finally decided to make an appearance today. Last show of the week, found us back in Norman again, this time at Norman High. As we drove down I-35, it was bleak and cloudy… Continue
Ok, so I don't know what the deal is with the weather this week, but it doesn't want to agree with us in any way, shape, or form. I keep talking about rain, and wind, and all that good stuff. Last night the sky opened up and unleashed a torrent of rain, that did not let up for hours. It was coming down at a good rate, pretty much all night long. Water pooling up in the streets, traffic slowing down to a snails pace. It was a good night to not be on the road last night. The weather report was… Continue
Life is like a game. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. You roll in the flow of your life, you skate in the slides of your decisions and you drop in the middle of nowhere.
Yesterday we had wind to contend with, today we had more wind, and some rain as well. Apparently there is a cold front moving through the area this week, with more high winds, and the threat of some pretty epic rainfall amounts. It was kind of a good thing for the area. There was a massive apartment fire in Edmond on Mon night, so the rain helped that situation out, but it was a bad thing for us, because it meant no ramp show, for the 2nd day in a row.
We had a 3 day weekend off, well some of us did, the ramp crew didn't, those guys had to drive from Florida to Oklahoma. Those guys pretty much packed up after our Friday show in Florida, and spent all weekend driving. It took them 3 days, so we didn't have a show yesterday. The rest of us took the weekend off, and flew in last night. It had been super hot and humid for most of last week, so when we landed in Oklahoma City, the cooler windy weather was a nice change.
Last day of the week in Florida, and the weather finally decided to give us a break today. Our final show took place just down the road from the hotel, at Melbourne Central Catholic High. After the lengthy drive to the Orlando school yesterday the short drive was a welcome change.
We had one show today, at the end of the school day, and it was on the back practice field. This was a smaller school, with about 800 students or so. I had mentioned the weather giving us a break. It had… Continue
iPhone users can now make videos straight from their phone. Check out this video Jared Souney made using the new ReelDirector app to edit clips shot on the iPhone. The clips never leave the phone to get edited. It's all done right there on the phone. Titles and all. Apparently you'll soon be able to add music too.
If you've got an iPhone 3Gs, you too can make videos with the $7.99 app. When you're done,… Continue

So much for that cold front moving into the area. After today, I have decided to not listen to the weather reports any longer. I pretty much gave up hope of cooler temperatures, after waking up this morning and stepping outside. Everyone keeps telling us, "it's not usually like this, this time of year", so I guess we aren't the only ones suffering.
Despite the heat, the show must go on, and that's exactly what happened today. This time our shows moved outside of the Melbourne area,… Continue
Last night, a bunch of us were sitting in my hotel room, playing cards, and watching TV. During a commercial break, they did a teaser for the evening news, and it said, "big changes possible in the weather this week". Hearing that, we all got a little excited, so we decided to wait it out and watch the news. They talked about some rain moving in, and cooler temperatures for the remainder of the week. That gave us some hope of relief from the oppressive heat. Well, that relief never came today.… Continue

Being an (older) skater, I am always checking out the latest gear and updating (now that I have a job and money!) Of course, safety is an issue, so I want a board that is well built, but looks good too. I have a Darkstar skateboard right now (third in the last two…See More
