ASA High School Tour - Spring 2011

2011 ASA High School Tour Background Information

In 2000 ASA Entertainment created the ASA High School Tour (Tour), a traveling action sports exhibition that visits cities across the United States supporting the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. It was an exciting way to raise awareness amongst young adults about the harmful effects of using tobacco. This spring, the ASA High School Tour, in partnership with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and the U.S. Marine Corps, brings the world’s best action sports athletes back to high schools across the country to show kids that it’s cool to be tobacco-free.

The ASA High School Tour features the world’s top professional skateboarders, BMX riders and inline skaters performing mind-boggling aerial stunts on a state-of-the-art half-pipe in front of tens of thousands of students each year. The pro athletes and tour emcee speak passionately to teens about the importance of refraining from tobacco use in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. With its positive peer-to-peer anti-smoking message and incredible "wow factor", the ASA High School Tour has become one of the top attractions at schools across America.

Currently scheduled to perform at the spring stops are top BMX vert stars Jay Eggleston (Denver, CO), Jimmy Walker (Gilberts, IL), John Parker (State College, PA), Austin Coleman (Lake Forest, CA), Koji Kraft (Chicago, IL) and Zack Warden (St. Louis, MO); BMX flat land legends Trevor Meyer (Little Rock, AR) and Gabe Weed (Walnut Creek, CA); skateboarding pros Jay Stevason (Toronto, CAN) and Anthony Furlong (Tampa, FL); and inline skating World Champion Eito Yasutoko (Kobe, JAPAN).

Since the Tour’s inception twelve years ago, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids important messaging has reached more than one million students. This year, the Tour's high-impact assembly program will visit 100 high schools in 20 major cities, staying in each market for 5 days. Please join in our mission to help make every kid in America tobacco-free!

Providence RI May 2nd - 6th 2011

Pretty much our entire crew spent the weekend in Williamsburg Virginia, at Busch Gardens. We had a weekends worth of shows down there, but after a brief departure from the high school tour ramp (which we lovingly refer to as the tin can), we were soon back on a plane to New England. Our adventures this week bring us to Providence RI. This is the first time that high school tour has ever been to Rhode Island, so it was definitely new territory for us. The schools this week were North…

Connecticut week SHST April 25th - 29th 2011

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 10:43am 0 Comments

We took a week off for spring break, and soon it was back to the grindstone. We had all gone our separate ways for a few days, but regrouped in central Connecticut on Sunday April 24th. The weather forecast for the area wasn't looking to promising. I took my week off in Dallas, and it was sunny and hot. When I arrived back in the northeast, I was greeted by 40 degree temps and lots of rain. The forecast for the week was calling for rain for most of the week, we were hoping that was not the…

Week # 3 SHST Long Island NY April 11th - 15th 2011

Posted on April 15, 2011 at 1:29pm 0 Comments

We had a great weekend off in Tampa FL at Busch Gardens. Some of the boys got a break from the cold weather, and were able to ride the big ramp, but after a fast paced weekend of sunny skies, and 80 degree temps, it was back on a plane and back to the cold weather.

Our travels this week take us to the island, Long Island that is, and winter refused to release it's grasp on the area. It was in the mid 40's and windy and rainy when we landed. The forecast didn't look good for…

Philadelphia area Spring High School Tour April 4th - 8th 2011

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 10:18am 0 Comments

Raleigh was cold and rainy for most of the week, and guess what??? That weather decided to follow us into the greater Philadelphia area. They actually had snow here, a few days before we rolled into town. We left Raleigh and it was sunny and in the 70's, by the time we got to Baltimore, it was cold, and grey, and we knew what we were in for. Our shows this week were at Downingtown, West Chester East, Triton, Truman, and Oxford Area High Schools. The crew for this week was the same as last…

What to Look for in a Board

Being an (older) skater, I am always checking out the latest gear and updating (now that I have a job and money!) Of course, safety is an issue, so I want a board that is well built, but looks good too. I have a Darkstar skateboard right now (third in the last two…See More
